Happy, Healthy Holidays is a city-wide initiative to support, co-ordinate and provide funding for the delivery of free food and activities for children and young people across Birmingham this summer.
Funded by the Department for Education, the HHH consortium hope to aid, expand and improve the accessibility of high-quality holiday provision for children and young people in all ten of the city's districts.
For many families in Birmingham school holidays are a difficult time. Research has identified a range of negative outcomes associated with time away from formal education, especially during the long summer break, including learning loss, financial stress and food poverty in the absence of free school meals, and lack of social interaction and meaningful activity.
There are over 49,000 children in Birmingham eligible for free school meals. This programme seeks to support community-based initiatives across the city to respond to the high demand for positive activity and free food this summer.
