Background
Sport Birmingham is conducting this survey to help us to understand the engagement in, and attitudes to PE school sport and physical activity (PESSPA) amongst children and young people across Birmingham. Two (primary and secondary) teacher surveys have been developed to gather feedback from teachers. One pupil survey has been developed which can be used for primary and secondary pupils. The surveys allow you to report on any in school provision, and also the remote learning schedule offer.
The data will help to build a picture of the reasons for the different levels of PESSPA engagement and to improve our strategic vision and support offer so it can provide the greatest benefits for you and your pupils.
In the survey, you will have the opportunity to request your own school's responses if that would be useful to you in your planning.
Survey completion
Responses will be analysed and reported at an aggregated level, and anything that you say will not be attributed to you or the school you work in. Any quotes that you provide will be anonymised.
If you teach in an 'all through school,' please complete both 'primary' and 'secondary' teacher surveys.
With regards to the question around 'activity levels', please record for the last 5 school days. Responses should be a best estimate, and aggregated for the different year groups.
The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete depending on your responses. The pupil surveys can be completed either on paper or online. We urge all PE lead/co-ordinator surveys to be completed online.
Next steps
Following completion, schools will also have the opportunity to take part in the free Sport England national Active Lives Children and Young People survey and receive a Healthy Schools Rating Certificate (HSRS).
Prize draw
As a thank you for your participation, you will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw for a £100 PE kit/equipment voucher. In order to encourage school's engagement in this important piece of research, if you achieve at least 50 responses for the pupil surveys, you will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw for a chance to win a £200 PE kit/equipment voucher for your school. Deadline for responses is 12th February 2021
