Major investment to create new workforce opportunities for sport and physical activity sector
Sport England are investing £1.2 million into the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA)Open in a new window over the next two years.
The backing will transform the delivery of sport and physical activity services – and help create a well-trained and highly skilled workforce for the sector.
ONE SECTOR, ONCE VOICE
CIMSPA is the professional development body for the UK's sport and physical activity sector. Launched in 2011, it offers leadership and support for industry professionals and provides a single unified voice for the sector.
Sport England's support offers a timely boost as CIMPSA puts its four-year strategy into practice, which includes:
- Embedding apprenticeships into the workforce
- Creating career opportunities for people to progress within the sector
- Providing the industry with quality assured training
- Representing the views of everyone working in a growing industry.
The development of new professional standards will help measure and track the institute's progress and how it responds to both customer and sector needs.
BUILDING THE RIGHT FOUNDATIONS
Sport England director of sport, Phil Smith, says: "We were very impressed with the CIMSPA business plan to grow its membership and satisfy the needs of our industry's employers.
"Its track record of engaging employers, setting standards and developing apprenticeships makes them a key partner for us as we work together to get the nation more active."
Increasing opportunities within the sport and activity sector is a key feature of Sport England's strategy.
A well-trained and skilled workforce remains the foundation to a more productive, sustainable and responsible sport and activity sector.
