Coaching Games for Understanding Workshop

This workshop will start to explore how coaches can develop purposeful games using the Coaching Games for Understanding approach. Coaching Games for Understanding (CGfU) is based on the Teaching Games for Understanding model (TGfU). It uses games which have been constrained or modified to enable players to develop game skills to solve tactical problems and thereby execute game strategies.

Workshop learning outcomes:

At the end of the workshop, learners will;

Understand the nature of games
Understand traditional approaches to coaching games
Understand the key principles of the CGfU approach
Understand how to set up and facilitate games to embed the CGfU approach
be able to identify questions to support CGfU session delivery

Learner Pre-requisites:

Prior to attending this workshop, learners are required to:

Be at least 17 years of age
Hold a minimum of one of the following:
Hold or be working towards a level 2 coaching qualification or recognised equivalent *
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
Be a newly qualified teacher (NQT)
Be on a PGCE pathway
Be an undergraduate on a sports degree
Be able to communicate effectively in English
*Be registered onto a level 2 course or qualification
