UKCC Level 2 Certificate for Coaches in Badminton (Badminton England)

Course Overview

The UKCC Level 2 Certificate for Coaches in Badminton qualifies the coach to independently plan, lead and review coaching sessions and develop coaching programmes to support the development of players. Once completed the Level 2 course will give you the confidence and skills to deliver independently. On the course itself you will cover topics such as:

• The role and responsibilities of the coach

• Applying the correct biomechanical principles of hitting technique and provide an accurate demonstration of defined badminton strokes

• Applying the correct biomechanical principles of movement to a wide range of movements performed in badminton

• Applying key singles and doubles tactics, develop sets of progressive tactical practices to develop discipline-specific hitting and movement skills and effectively communicate with players tactically

• Recognising and interpreting the significance of hydration and nutrition in badminton performance

Before you attend your first day you will be sent through a link to a pre-course learning module. This module takes roughly 1 hour to complete and will give you confidence, up to date terminology and knowledge to support you during the course and assessment. We recommend you complete this prior to day 1 of the course.

Day 2:

• Hitting Skills

• Advanced hitting techniques

• Designing coaching programmes and sessions

• Structuring, managing & delivering coaching sessions

• Doubles tactics

Day 3:

• Designing coaching practices for singles

• Doubles tactics

• Communication & formative assessments

Day 4:

• Session delivery assessment

• Coaching programmes assessment

Safeguarding Course

It is mandatory for anyone registering on the UKCC Level 2 Certificate for Coaches in Badminton, to complete a recognised Safeguarding Course prior to certification (this can be before/during/after the completion of the course). Badminton England accepts either of the following:

- Sports Coach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop

- Any safeguarding workshop endorsed by your local County Safeguarding Board

If you require further assistance to complete an appropriate qualification, please contact the coaching team to answer any queries you might have. Once you have completed a safeguarding course, we will require proof of completion – please send a copy of your certificate to

What to bring with you?

Please come prepared to be active on court for the duration of the course. Therefore, suitable sports attire and a badminton racket is required. Please also bring a note pad and pen or tablets/ smart phones if you wish to take notes/ capture the course to take away with you. A packed lunch and drinks will also be required.

Who is delivering this workshop to you?

Bev Woodcock will be delivering this workshop, a full time Level 2 Badminton Coach, working with players ranging from 7 to 70 years of age and of all abilities from beginners to international experienced players.

We recommend that all coaches actively coaching join our Coach Accreditation Scheme and as a newly qualified coach, you will be entitled to FREE membership to the Coaching Register. Our Coach Accreditation scheme offers support to coaches to ensure all those taking part in the game have an enjoyable and safe experience providing a simple check on safety and professional standards whilst providing insurance. To join the Coaching Register you are required to complete a DBS* check through Badminton England and submit a passport style photograph of yourself. Please contact us at coaching@badmintonengland.co.uk if you wish to join the Coaching Register for FREE and we will assist you through this process. * In order to complete a DBS check there is an administration charge of £9.60 for volunteer coaches and £53.60 for paid coaches payable to Online Disclosure

Badminton England accepts card payments through this online booking system. If you wish to be invoiced for the course fees, please download and complete the application form from our website and return to coaching@badmintonengland.co.uk . Alternately, you can call 01908268400 and ask to speak to the coach education team should you wish to pay over the phone. If you wish to pay by cheque, please complete the application form and send to our postal address (given on the form).

Booking Criteria

To book onto a level 2 coaching course, you must hold a level 1 badminton coaching qualification. All learners must be 18 or over on the first day of the course unless advised otherwise.
