This blended learning course will allow you to complete the theoretical elements of your Level 1 Swimming Assistant qualification online through interactive activities, which will be assessed as you work through the course. This will be followed by a practical assessment at an appropriate time.

SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) - Online Learning

The specialist online learning is split into bite-sized pieces, so you don't have to do it all in one go. This will mean you can work through the course online at home, at your own pace, over the coming weeks. You will be able to start your online learning as soon as you book on to this course.

You will be invited to join one or more of the optional webinars below. The webinar is an opportunity to ask any questions and share your experience of the training so far with your tutor and others who have begun their online training.

  • 20th May - 9:00 to 11:00
  • 28th May - 15:00 to 17:00
  • 5th June - 12:00 to 14:00

Course content

The course develops your knowledge, skills and abilities as an assistant swimming teacher. It will enable you to actively support a qualified swimming teacher in the delivery of a planned Learn to Swim session.

The course is delivered through a mixture of online learning exercises, classroom activities, and practical poolside learning.

You will learn about:

  • The legal aspects of assisting in swimming lessons
  • The responsibilities of a Swimming Assistant
  • The swimming pathway, fundamental movement, core aquatic skills and component parts of strokes
  • Scientific principles of swimming
  • What makes up a lesson plan, equipment and communications skills
  • How to identify anxiety and use of motivational techniques
  • The type of assistance you can provide

Course fees

To allow as many people to start training during these exceptional times, we are splitting the course fee into two separate payments.

When you start the course and begin your online learning, you will only have to pay £120.

Once the leisure centres reopen and we can book your two practical days, we will then arrange your final payment of £255.
