The University of Birmingham need your help with their Gateway to Activity Research...
Members of the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Science of the University of Birmingham are inviting residents from Birmingham to help with their research project focusing on engaging individuals in exercise. The research is led by Professor Brett Smith in collaboration with Dr Eva Jaarsma.
They are interested in exploring how to promote exercise for people with disabilities, who are currently not doing any exercise but would like to become active and start exercising.
The hope is that the findings can help in detecting short and long term implications of strategies that can successfully help in promoting exercise.
What would we like to talk about?
We would like you to help us understand how we can help you to get active and have fun!
In stage 1 we would like to know if you have tried exercise before. We would also like to know how we can help you to get active.
In stage 2 we will help you to get active. We will discuss what exercise you could do and help you if you have any problems with exercise.
In stage 3 we would like to talk to you about if you still are still active. We would also like to talk about if we could have helped you better.
How will we do it?
In stage 1 we will interview you.
This means we will ask you a few questions.
In stage 2 we will send you a questionnaire.
This means that we will ask you to answer all the questions listed.
In stage 3 we will interview you.
We will ask you a few questions again.
How will we use your answers?
We will record your answers on tape when we interview you.
Your name will not be used in the report.
Only the researchers will see your answers.
Is there any reward?
Yes! To thank you for your help you will receive £30 after completing stage 3.
We will also help you and pay your transport costs.
How can I join the project?
You have to be at least 18 years old to join the project.
You also need to be interested in starting exercise.
If you would like to join the project or have any questions please contact Eva Jaarsma at firstname.lastname@example.org or 0121 4148258.
