GET BACK TO HOCKEY FOR FITNESS, FUN AND FRIENDSHIP

Back to Hockey returns this spring with hundreds of clubs opening their doors to thousands of women and men nationwide, all with the aim to do one thing: getting more players back playing hockey. There's no better time to start as Back to Hockey is again partnering with Sport England's 'This Girl Can' campaign which is a national programme celebrating active women around the country who are doing their thing and enjoying it - no matter how well they do, how they look or even how red their face gets.
The six-week Back to Hockey programme, supported by Berlei sports bras, offers fun, sociable and informal sessions for men and women who want to get back into physical activity but may not have played hockey for a number of years, along with those who want to play for the first time.
From 9 May - 19 June 2016, players will be able to pick up their sticks and discover fitness, fun and friendship through relaxed and informative sessions. They can learn new skills and discover how to play from scratch before putting it all into practice with small-sided games. What's more, many of the clubs offering Back to Hockey also get together to host coffee mornings and organise dinners with their teams, so it's ideal for socialising with like-minded people. Beverley Blackburn, England Hockey's Participation Manager and hockey coach of seven years, says: "It's an exciting time to come back to hockey as so many women have been inspired by the 'This Girl Can' campaign and want to give the sport a try. Plus we are only a few months out from the Rio Olympics. We welcome all abilities and are keen to show that hockey has come a long way from the days of muddy pitches and waiting around for a touch of the ball!
"The Back to Hockey sessions are also aimed at those who played during their school days but may have moved away from the game because it became too time consuming, competitive and physically demanding. Now back for another successful year, the flexible format allows players get involved in the sport on a local basis and can fit easily around busy schedules."
The Back to Hockey campaign has proved so successful in previous years and being partnered again with This Girl Can in 2016 really strengthens the message that anyone, of any ability, can get involved in sport without fear of judgement. These sessions really are the perfect way to get involved for players looking for a fun, social way to get fit and stay in shape.
Over 160 hockey clubs across the UK have already signed up to be a part of Back to Hockey 2016 - to find your nearest session, or learn more about the sport, please visit www.englandhockey.co.uk/backtohockey
The Back to Hockey campaign is organised by England Hockey, the sport's official National Governing Body, and the whole initiative is sponsored by Berlei sports bras.
