Club Enters New Era
City of Birmingham Basketball Club has long been at the forefront of basketball within Birmingham. Now after 14 successful years, they are extremely proud to announce that as part of their progression, their teams will now be known as City of Birmingham Rockets.
The move comes as COB cement their partnership with NBA Legend and former Houston Rocket, Hakeem ' The Dream' Olajuwon, who continues to be impressed by the club ethos, culture and social output.
A new logo along with the new City of Birmingham Rockets name for our teams will see the club move into a new era as they enter 15th year of existence, making COB one of the longest serving clubs in the UK in addition to hosting one of the largest junior programmes.
Club CEO Kirk Dawes said 'This is a proud day for the club as we continue our journey forward. We are committed to an extensive and high quality provision of basketball opportunities for the young people of Birmingham and the West Midlands whilst working tirelessly to ensure the participants receive high level, quality coaching on a consistent basis along with mentoring and educational support as part of our CoB Family."
Managing Director Rob Palmer added "Our organisation's successful and progressive relationship with NBA and Houston Rockets legend Hakeem 'The Dream' Olajuwon made the addition of the 'Rockets' strap line the automatic choice for us moving forward."
The club will adopt the new playing name and logo with immediate effect and are looking forward to the 2017/18 season where 13 teams compete in a range of competitions varying from National League Premier to West Midlands Youth Basketball League competitions.
COB Rockets anticipate their club playing membership base will swell to over 1250 young basketball players for the forthcoming year with several exciting initiatives lined up during the next 12 months.
Their mini and development programmes are thriving with great numbers every week, the club's representative teams are packed with talent, many representing the West Midlands region, their girl's membership has also increased as they re-enter National League at Under 18s this season and now for the first time are proud to have a women's team competing in the West Midlands Basketball Women's League!
Behind the scenes they have a great set of volunteers who help ensure the club continues to serve it's members. They embrace the COB ethos and help make the club so popular!
It's a great time to be at COB as the Rockets officially get set to launch!
