5 Reasons to work at Sport Birmingham

With our Project co-ordinator role currently accepting applications what better time to tell about Sport Birmingham as a place to work! Here's five reasons that might get you hurrying to fill in your application.
1) Working Culture
Working in sport & physical activity ourselves, it's fair to say that wellbeing scores highly on our priority list. This can take all manner of forms from a recent wellbeing survey with our staff that found they wanted more free fruit whist they loved that we already provided flexible working hours! We want to give options that suit all manner of people whilst ensuring they can fulfil their role successfully with the chaotic lives we all live! We also have to practice what we preach, for example our Daily Mile co-ordinator has just started at SB. A role whereby we're encouraging schools to sign up to 15minute run or walk as a result we as an office have been doing a lunchtime daily mile and feeling a lot more sharper in tackling the post lunch slump.
2) Young & Innovative
I like slightly different facts and I think this one is a gem. Our average age for example is 30yrs old which I think is quite a young age for an organisation that works in such a broad range of spaces. One strength of having a relatively young workforce is we're always coming up with new ways to approach challenges, growing local young people as well allowing them to work alongside colleagues who have worked in the industry for a while. The result being you get a person with a blended approach, the awareness of some of the challenges the city face whilst having charisma and a desire to change the local landscape they perceive. We want disruptors.
3) Diverse role
Having been a Project Co-ordinator myself here at Sport Birmingham I can definitely testify this role will keep you on your toes. You'll be supporting and learning aspects of our marketing function around website content, liaising with partners around our school programmes as well as ensuring progress on our Apprenticeship scheme is reported on and communicated out to partners. You'll need to be adaptable whilst solving today's challenges and catering for tomorrow's as well.
4) A changing city
If you have a quick look at Birmingham from a skyline perspective you'll note it's a lot of cranes in the sky (cue Solange song) signifying significant change within the city. It's a time where a lot of independents are coming to the fore not to mention large scale developments like HS2 and the redevelopment of Centenary Square. With house and rental prices cheaper than London it's a great place to work, live and enjoy!
5) Commonwealth Games
I said it, the phrase that is a steady hum in the background at present. 2022, believe it or not, isn't that far away.
What better time to work in sport and physical activity in Birmingham with a massive mega event on the horizon. However I'm keen to point out we're really big on how we make the Games work for Brummies while it is a fantastic event for the rest of the country and Commonwealth. So if you're mad into working out how we intertwine communities to feel the benefit of 2022, readying the workforce so local people can make the most of new opportunities and opening physical activity to more of the city, you'll fit right in.
