Get involved and become a Parent Champion!

Sport Birmingham have been working with two primary schools in Balsall Heath to recruit and train a cohort of Parent Champions.
The aim of the programme is to give parents the confidence, capability, and qualifications to be able to deliver physical activity in their local community. We are aiming to work with a group of 20 – 30 parents/careers who have expressed an interest through their children's schools. Parents will be partnered with an experienced mentor, who will be on hand throughout (and after) the course to provide advice and guidance. We will also be working with community groups such as the Balsall heath City Farm to ensure that the new recruits are familiarised local assets where they will be invited to deliver after the course.
The project is part of our work on the Active Communities programme, funded by The Active Wellbeing Society, and will support our wider ambitions to 'Grow and develop a workforce for the sport and physical activity sector'; a key part of our new strategy which you can read about here.
Although this is a pilot project, we are hoping that the Parent Champion course is a programme that we can take to other areas of the city. If you are a school or organisation with a group of parents that you think would benefit from this, please could we encourage that you get in touch with us via Schools@Sportbirmingham.org to express your interest.
