Name: Tahir Parvaz
What's your role? I am one of 4 activators focusing on setting up running / jogging groups within specific areas of Birmingham. These include Couch to 5k and 5-10k progression groups.
Tell us about your background? I used to work in pharmaceuticals and sales providing medicine to cure illnesses that came from people living inactive lifestyles. I have a passion for helping people and bringing people together and when an opportunity to qualify as a LiRF leaader came about I jumped at the chance! I started volunteering as a Run Leader for the Run Birmingham programme before successfully applying for one of the full time activator roles!
Best thing about being a coach? Motivating people of all abilities and getting people started in their fitness journeys.
Who's your role model or inspiration? Sir Mo Farah
Have you faced or overcome any barriers in relation to your coaching? I have led sessions with people from all different backgrounds and ethnicity but the biggest barrier I have overcome is to lead groups of Asian Muslim women who tend to only be involved in women only groups and generally reluctant to try physical activity.
Advice to other coaches / instructors looking to get started? If you can connect with people and can inspire others then coaching is a rewarding and fulfilling career to pursue.
