"Our biggest 'win' was having Fox Hollies School attend the event, as BISF week provided them with enough advanced notice to be able to organise a few pupils to come down to the Adaptive Cycling sessions. We're now looking at a dedicated morning session for Fox Hollies alone, thereby expanding our provision. I am sure we planted a few seeds at the Launch Day which will pay off later when people can get to us now they know we are there. New contacts were made and I also re-established contact with some former colleagues. An excellent event all day & all week."
"We welcomed 4 young men with learning difficulties and their support worker from Sanctuary Housing Association to the Bowls. It was a fabulous afternoon. The lads loved playing and our volunteers loved helping out. We gave each of the lads a small goody bag."
"As a result of being included in BISF, we have made links with a local housing association who brought some people to the rock climbing. They thoroughly enjoyed the session and have requested whether they could come back again and whether there is anything else they can get involved in!"
"The VI Tennis session for the sports festival at Sutton Coldfield Tennis Club went well with 11 people attending. 3 people from the VI sessions have also signed up as members of the club too."
"Since the Disability Sports Fest, Owen and I have met some lovely people. I got speaking to some of the Mums who told me about Mencap. The Mencap workers are great with Owen and let me know about the services available. Since learning about Mencap, Owen now plays football on Monday evenings at Trinity Road. Owen counts the days between each session as he has built a great rapport with other children and coaches."
"A popular sport that people were interested in trying was shooting. Those clients that were lucky enough to go had a brilliant time with some fantastic score sheets at the end!! This is a sport we are definitely hoping to continue to access on a regular basis in the future."
"Harry comes training every week and has not missed many sessions since the disability taster session last year. Harry is on the AS spectrum - while at club he is extremely well behaved. He was quite shy at first but quickly made friends. He helps out putting equipment away and works with others now. His trampolining has progressed very well, and it is our intention for Harry to enter the Disability National structure next year."
