Celebrating Local Coaches and Volunteers – Meet Joshua Smith

As part of volunteering week (1st – 7th June) and Coaching Week (4th – 10th June), Sport Birmingham are profiling local heroes who make sport happen in the city.

Joshua Smith is aged 13 and volunteers at diversity days in primary schools. He provides help and support to children in mainstream schools and share his experiences.

At Diversity Days, Joshua gives a speech about his autism and how he is an archer on the Team GB archery programme, he follows this with some workshops where he teaches children how to play archery and talks some more about himself.

Andrew Stead said 'Joshua first got involved by coming along to a Diversity Day and sharing his story, since then he has done many of them and is keen to do many more in the future.

Joshua has helped other children who have been struggling with autism and other related conditions to become more confident and to see that they can still achieve even when they feel like they can't'.

Joshua quoted Cristiano Ronaldo and said "work hard, train hard it's all up to you if you want to be the best in the world"
